Agreed. The agencies are generally looking out for their own commissions. I know a couple of people that have had a good match through them, but mostly not. I've tried a few in the past with very weak results.

Best way to look for a job, which I am currently doing, is network, network, network. Tell your friends, friends of friends, relatives, neighbours, anyone...and then see if you can play six degrees of separation to see who knows someone at a company or industry you'd like to work in. Set up some information interviews with those contacts and go from there. Keep looking on Monster, workopolis, etc...but it shouldn't be your main avenue of job searching, as something like 90% of jobs never even get advertised.

BTW, I recently finished a Project Management program, so if anyone here works somewhere that needs a project manager, drop me a private message. Don't let my location fool you, i'm actively seeking in Calgary as well.
