Since baseball is the sport I love most about in the world (outside of hockey and croquet...kidding kidding), I thought I'd give an update on some prospects. Hope some people find this interesting and watch for these names.
David Purcey now has a 2.77 ERA in AAA, with 34 BB and 107 K in 104 IP. He's getting older now, and if he doesn't make it as an end of the rotation starter he'll be a good bullpen guy.
Russ Adams' stock keeps dropping year after year, as he's now hitting .204/.298/.339 in AAA. Chances are he will no longer be a Jay after the year.
Scott Campbell was a draftee from New Zealand, the first native New Zealand player ever to be picked in the MLB draft. He leads all of AA in hitting, going .338/.432/.459 and has walked 45 times to 41 strikeouts. He is known to have a great eye and a solid bat, and he has dominated every level of the minors thus far (Except high A - he skipped it) and if Aaron Hill's concussion becomes serious in the long-term, it's good to know we have 2B depth.
One of our 2007 1st rounders, JP Arencibia destroyed High-A ball and is now in AA. He's hitting .267, and while still showing power, he's yet to walk in 60 at bats.
Ricky Romero, our former 1st round pick, is pitching to the tune of a 5.99 ERA. He always seems to do well through the first four or five innings, and then has one horrible inning to end his game.
2007 1st Round Supplemental pick Brett Cecil has a 3.16 ERA in AA and will most likely be in AAA by the end of the season.
And for some news about this year's top pick - David Cooper - he's hitting .358/.429/.580. 13 of his 29 hits have been for extra bases, and he is really showing gap power.
