Its not like he was a bad QB last year, in fact he had his best statistical season since he won the superbowl. He was one FG from leading his team to yet another Superbowl in fact.
As for him playing for another team....why the hell would he want to do that? The Packers are his team and he has 2 years left on his contract to prove that. The Packers on the other hand may wish to go forward with rodgers at the helm, but it would be suicidal PR wise to force that scenario IMO.
I feel sorry for Rodgers if this in fact happens, but thats the way of the NFL. Guys get bumped down the depth chart every year because someone else is much more experienced/better/ready. And lets be honest, Rodgers simply has no track record behind him to prove he can be a #1 guy at this point.
Ted Thompson and Mike McCarthy are the guys that need to talk to favre and get a decision one way or the other. McCarthy, I have a feeling, would be absolutely thrilled to have Favre back as he is not only the head coach but also the QB coach and as such has a gameplan that works with #4 under center.
I still am not sure that Favre decides to play, but if he does, the vast majority of Packer nation and most FB fans will welcome it with open arms.

Im sure Farve would be welcomed back with open arms. I have no problems with Farve having second (at this point the count is around 10) thoughts about retiring. It's tough enough to walk away from a job when youre in your 50s or 60s let alone your mid to late 30s.
My problem is he makes these grand exits with farewell ceremonies, tears, press conferences, tributes, etc... right at the end of the season. Even if he's 99% sure at the end of the season, take some time away to think about it and dont let the emotions of the season drive your decision. Make the decision several months later.
Rodgers does not have any track record to prove he can be a number one guy. Obviously the Packers arent too confident in him because they drafted Brohm (another meh QB). Still, the kid has been given zero opportunity in games little in practice with Farve taking the majority of the snaps with the number one unit.
Retire or come back for another season - Farve is a HOF QB and IMO gets overlooked too often as among the best ever. But this back and forth stuff has to end. Green Bay needs to set a date for a decision and be firm with it.
