Nickel cadmium, Lithium Ion, and Nickel Metal Hydrate are incredibly hazardous. Hell, Lithium Ion EXPLODES when it comes into contact with freaking water!
Perhaps that document was pertaining to dry-cell
alkaline batteries, which I agree are manufactured mostly harmless nowadays. Still better to recycle them all though.
