I don't think you need a specially trained dog for that. Currency, sure, but sniffing out food is the doggy equivalent of depth perception in humans - it's built into the specifications.
Heck, if they are looking for contraband food, hire my cat. He can tell the difference between me taking milk out of the refrigerator as opposed to say, an apple. At least, that's the only way I can explain how he is at my feet instantly when I pull out something he might like, as opposed to something he doesn't care about, where he'll remain inert on the couch in the other room. As long as the travellers are smuggling pepperoni, leftover steaks and cheese, he'd be an invaluable anti-smuggling tool.
