Actually you are incorrect. I have had the pleasure of meeting him on several occasions and can happily report he is one of the nicer musicians I have ever met. He often times will personally respond to fan emails and meets with fans outside his tour bus after every show (despite the fact he has an immunodeficiency disease and he gets brutally sick every tour).
He as also done a great deal of work for the mental illness community and is often considered a spokesman for those suffering from depression and manic depression.
He is very intolerant of stupid behaviour (from fans and the media) and is oftentimes unable to just ignore it. Just because he may speak his mind more often than most does not make him an a**hole.
He really shouldn't be playing festivals for this reason imo. Drunken debauchery is pretty much standard around most festivals like Virgin Fest, so I was surprised to see this gig booked.
