I don't really think some compensation to a victim of a violent crime like rape is that outrageous. Thankfully I haven't suffered such an attack, but if I did, I'm pretty sure my life would never be the same. Civil ligitigation is there for a reason. If this guy broke in your house and stole your possessions, wouldn't you want restitution? I'm not saying the victim should get all of his lottery winnings, but she did go through something tramatic and her parents probably have spent money on counseling. This girl would be in her early 20's now, just a little money could provide a change of scenery, ensure a college education. If the guy totalled her car, she'd get restitution, violating her physically is much more tramatic.
