They were breed to have aggressive tendencies towards other dogs, and responsible breeders now have been breeding that out anyways. They also don't have violent tendencies, I doubt you have been around many pits with that attitude. If you are unsure how to properly train and socialize a larger dog than you shouldn't own one, or should contact the SPCA or your vet. Furthermore every breed of dog shows a wide range from alpha dog down to follower, that is dependant on that specific dog, and if you happen to get an alpha dog (a responsible breeder would know that it was and wouldn't sell to just anyone) you need to take more responsibilities to make yourself the pack leader.

Anecdotal evidence but volunteering at the SPCA I was never bit by a pit, but was multiple times by labs.
