I agree what he did was justified and ultimately, a good thing for society, but he wasn't actually able to save the infant.
I'm not meaning to take away from the praise for the cop... I'm just confused as I don't think you can call him a hero if he didn't stop the man before it was too late.
Though he did still stop an obviously dangerous person. I don't know, I'm just confused.

It wasn't dead when he got there, and he atleast gave the paramedics a chance to save the child while stopping the man from doing anymore damage.
The actions were heroic, in the sense that he tried to save someone in peril.
