Ducks-Isles deal
Well the Ducks and Islanders made a 4 player swap today. Here is how it breaks down.
To the Ducks:
Chris Phillips
Antoine Vermette
To the Isles:
Rights to Brian Rafalski
Travis Moen
Well offensive dmen tend to be quite a bit more valuable then defensive dmen in the cphl (at least that seems to be consensus in trade talks) so when we were dealing a higher rated rafalski for phillips we wanted to ensure a nice upgrade on the second piece. Vermette is exactly the type of player we wanted on our 3rd line. A checker who plays good D and can still score, thus allowing him to step up to the 2nd line if need be. He put up 53 points with a +3 for the Sens last season and we are thrilled to add this soon to be 26 year old to the team.
Rafalski will be missed as Dmen with that calibre of SC are rare, now the Isles have two of the best in Rafalski and Lidstrom which should prove very beneficial for that team. Ideally we are hoping that Keith will step up and bring in some offensive production from the back end but the Ducks GM obviously isn't done yet as we will search elsewhere for more of an offensive specialist to play with Regehr or Phillips.
Here is how the Ducks lineup breaks down:
Backstrom-Gomez-Modano
Legwand-Sedin-Federov
Samuelsson-Lombardi-Vermette
Kelly-Ruutu-Betts
Regehr-Keith
Phillips-Niskanen
Smid-Finger
Yandle
Dipetro
Kolzig
Thanks to the Isles for the good negotiations, we wish Moen and Rafalski the best of luck in that organization.
