I read a book about the cases and it was pretty disgusting. It went into great details and described many of the videos. I don't think I was ever so repulsed in my life. The book also included "rap songs" that Bernardo wrote and they really give you an insight as to what kind of egomaniac he was. He apparently thought he was going to be the next "Vanilla Ice".

At the time Bernardo got arrested I was in high school in Brantford, Ontario, a couple hours-ish away from St. Catherines. We had a boarder staying with us at the time who got arrested in St. Catherines on the same day on either a DUI or some kind of mischief charge (I don't remember which) and as he had outstanding warrants, the cops threw him in the poke for a bail hearing. Anyway, he happened to be in a holding cell just down the hall from Bernardo when he was brought in. The cops knew that they had caught the "St. Catherines" rapist and they put him into a protective custody situation right away before even a bail hearing happened because of fears that he would never make it to his first court date.
Edit to add - there was a very brief period where we thought our boarder might have been the one who was arrested as the St. Catherines rapist, because he called to tell us he had been arrested but didn't say why at the time and we heard later in the day that someone had been arrested as the rapist in St. Catherines but they didn't immediately say who... It was pretty freaky actually.
