I've taken on about ten between the ages of eight and twelve (plus one fifteen year old), and these were highly-motivated, wiry gypsy kids. The thing about swarming, they stop you from running, but there's never more than five or six of them right around you at once. All you have to do is keep kicking, and spinning somewhat so they don't get attached. With five-year-olds, I'd say I could comfortably handle about 25.
