Burnett can and probably will opt out of his contract at the end of this season though.
Anything we trade Burnett for has to be better than the picks the Jays will receive for him opting out. Burnett is actually the kind of player that's hard to trade - he's not quite a star, but has a hefty contract so the comp. picks will more than likely be a better return than what we'd get for him in a trade.
The only trade worth doing for Burnett is for a contributing roster player in return. A decent .775-.800 OPS LF would be what I'd be eying in return.
Another question to ask is who takes over the missing spot in the rotation. Purcey clearly isn't up to it.
