There is a law in Canada that only dark-coloured soft drinks may contain caffeine. I have no idea why. Maybe because drugs are evil and black is the colour of evil.
As for people like jonpatterson who get hot and bothered about Coke being better than Pepsi, it would seem as though the media branding machine has had its way with you. The two products are so similar that any major difference you perceive is largely a result of secondary factors such as advertising, history, or packaging. It is pretty clear for any disinterested individual on Earth that, product-wise, Coke and Pepsi are near identical.
