Well its about time I start looking for a new car. I'm currently driving a 94 ford explorer with over 300 000km on it. Lets just say the car has seen better days.

I've been looking at AWD as an option, Subaru in praticular, but I was just wondering if there is a major difference between 4 wheel drive and AWD. Are they equivalent when it comes to safety or is one better than the other?

Also any thoughts on subaru would be greatly aprreciated. I've never owned a subaru before and I've been looking at the 08 Impreza and I've been impressed with what I've seen so far. I realize there are probably better cars out there but financial concerns sort of restricts my mobility.
