Default Keyed Lock for a Patio Door? [Old bumped thread]

There's been a few times where it would be handy to be able to lock and unlock the sliding patio door from the outside. So I started looking into it and it seems this is a lot harder than I thought. Here's what I've tried so far:

- Home Depot sells a DIY kit to swap out the handles. Either I such at doing it, or the universal one they sell doesn't fit my door.

- Called some "Door & Glass" places. Either they don't do it, or they don't know but if I want to pay for a service call they can have a look and tell me. (They also can't tell me what the cost of said service call will be.)

- Called a couple of locksmiths. They suggest calling a door & glass place.

Has anybody else done this before? Any luck? Suggestions?

Thanks guys!
