When bikers get killed in accidents, it is always so easy to simply assume the biker was doing something stupid, becuase that is usually the case.

Wow, that is so far off base it isn't even funny.
Boblobla already mentioned it, but the VAST majority of bike accidents are caused by drivers not paying attention and hitting a guy on a bike.
On more than one occasion, I've had people pull out in front of me and I've had to do my best to avoid hitting them, or going for a spill.
Trust me, there is nothing more annoying then going up the hill to my house at 60-70k (the speed limit is 60) and having people pull out to turn left when I'm about 20 yards away.
On one occasion, this exact situation happened and I managed to keep it on two wheels and came to a stop with my leg about 4 inches in front of her headlight.
She rolled down her window and said somewhat appologetically "Oh, sorry, didn't see you there"
To which I replied (in a not very friendly manner) "I know you didn't, because you didn't even Fataing look" then as a courtesy to her, I tested the impact stregth of her bumper with my foot.
This kind of thing happens all the time to just about everyone who rides.
Of all of the people I ride with (and that's quite a few) just about everyone has crashed. Some of those were due to gravel, or other bad road conditions (that's how I bailed) and had nothing to do with stunting, or in my case even speeding, and most were caused by cars not paying close enough attention. Not a single one was caused by stunting, or doing something stupid like weaving in and out of traffic at 100mph.
Turst me, once you've been on a bike, you'll start to realize that when you see an accident, it's probaby a safe assumption that it was caused by someone in a car doing something stupid.
