It is true that property tax includes the education tax, which does go to the province. That is then doled back out to the city in some smaller percentage. I disagree that Davie should get to keep it all and "let the farm towns die". Those sub-communities to Calgary, like Strathmore, Airdrie, Okotoks, Cochrane, etc. all feed workers and consumers into the city. Calgary is part of the greater community that is Alberta, and the even greater community that is Canada.
I don't begrudge the equalization sharing that the feds impose on Alberta, even though it is quite possible that we could be the only one paying into it in a few years. I do, however, get tired of those in Sask, or Manitoba, or Quebec (for example) complaining about Alberta, or making off color jokes about our industry/culture/etc. while we are effectively paying for their health care and quality of life.
Just take the money and STFU and be on your way.
