A paramedic had the horrific task of confirming the unfathomable -- five individuals, identified by family and friends as Joshua Lall, his wife, Alison, and their daughters, Rochelle, 3, and Kristen, 5, as well as Amber Bowerman, a basement tenant -- were all dead.

The only person unharmed in what police Chief Rick Hanson called a "domestic homicide" in the home on Dalhart Hill N.W. was a one-year-old girl, who was taken from the home in good health.

While sources said it was a suspected murder-suicide at the grisly scene, Hanson would only say that has not been ruled out as a motive behind the killings, stressing they are not random and they are not looking for suspects.

"Preliminary indications are it's a domestic homicide," Hanson said.

Amid the carnage, however, the couple's one-year-old daughter was found unharmed.


Why the infant was spared injury -- and who among the dead may be responsible for the killing spree -- are two key questions that remain unanswered as homicide investigators try to piece together what unfolded inside the home in the 5500 block of Dalhart Hill N.W.

Four of the five dead are part of a young family.

Everyone who knew this family is shocked by what happened, but there were recent signs something may have been wrong.


According to the Calgary Sun, the parents of Joshua Lall got a frantic phonecall from their son a few days ago.
Apparently he stated something was wrong, but didn't get into specifics.


Joshua's father, Dominic, says he and his wife we're scheduled to arrive in Calgary on Wednesday night, but before catching that flight they got a call from police and watched the horrific drama at their son's home unfold on the news.


Lall's dad says they had no idea of any trouble in their son's life and thought everything was fine.


A neighbour, Mia Albino, tells the National Post, while being interviewed by police the officer told her, the five victims had all been stabbed.
