I heard the same kind of thing on the ride home yesterday. She kept yammering on and on about how children would be in danger of being struck by the train and how there would be transients running rampant. I've lived in the NE all my life close to Rundle station and, like you said, we were taught to look both ways and not to cross when there were giant BLINKING lights and arms coming down from the sky.
Although I can't say I really listened to her whole argument. I kind of tuned her out after she started with the child safety bit.
