I have never seen wild rabbits in Calgary. What you are probably seeing are jackrabbits, which are hares. Jackrabbits have black tipped ears.
Is your backyard fenced? That's the first thing. Find any holes that they could crawl through and plug them up. Make sure to seal up even small ones - the leverets are out (baby/toddler jackrabbits) and they're small enough to sneak through many places.
Barring that, there are some products that you can use, including cayenne pepper, to deter them. It will need to be reapplied at regular intervals, especially after rainfalls.
Luckily jackrabbits are incredibly poor diggers and cannot make holes themselves.
Finally, you could trap them. Effective traps are available at Canadian Tire. Use half an apple. Use the other half when you're making jackrabbit stew.
And plant daffodils and foxglove. Lagomorphs hate them. Note that foxglove is quite poisionous and can kill even humans if consumed in enough quantity.
