At 8:45 PM May 24, 2008 Alberta Environment issued a "Flood Warning" for the Highwood River (including the Town of High River).

At 9:41 PM, Council of the Town of High River declared a state of local emergency.

At 2:56 AM Alberta Environment indicated that the flow in the Highwood River at the bridge was 638 cms. It is expected to peak between 6:00 AM and 8:00 AM.
