Until you come face to face with the consequences of drunk driving you will never truly see what this does to people and how it changes lives. Clearly the penalties for drunk driving are not strict enough. Way too much justification going on and there is a large percentage of people that openly think it is acceptable. A lady got mowed down in the SW a few weeks back and the guy that did this was in court to make sure that he can still go to see his kid graduate and watch soccer games etc. Will likely see a few years in jail or if he gets a good lawyer who knows what kind of scheme they can arrange for him. In this case someones life was taken away by someone who will likely get out of jail and repeat his actions. You can't tell me that you can't afford a cab so what is it.....laziness....ignorance....or just a system that isn't strict enough....we are way too forgiving in this area and is not something that we should be forgiving of when lives are lost because someone made a selfish choice. I am clearly a stick in the mud on this issue maybe because of my experiences with this issue but if everyone on CP alone decided to never drink and drive and to call a cab each and every time then our roads would be a lot safer. It takes commitment and in some cases it can be very inconvenient but in return you will never be "that guy" in the newspaper....RANT OFF.
