I experienced something similar. One of the big reasons I don't want anything to do with the church. Sometimes, when a member like that is in need, they are shunned. I believe a church should be helping someone in that situation.

Yeah my mother’s closest friends totally abandoned her when she need them the most, even her family would speak to her for years after my parents divorce

Even though I was eight at the time it didn’t take much for me to realize how ridiculous this treatment was

Ever since then I have had nothing to do with the church and I can honestly say I am better for it
