if you have homeowners insurance there are plans that do cover bike theft,

Most home insurance policies cover bikes but have a $1,000 limit. In this case the value of the bike would be under the deductible or close to it depending if there is a $500 or $1,000 deductible so it is not going to be covered by most home insurance policies. A lot of people schedule their bikes to their home insurance policies meaning that they insure them seperately. It costs more but it covers all situations and comes with a $50 deductible in most cases. Also most bike shops have contact info for insurance companies that specialize in bike insurance so you can insure your bike and not have it effect your home insurance.
