You run in behind home plate. If you cross behind the plate before the catcher catches the ball, you are safe. If you have crossed the committment line (2/3rds the distance from third to home, iirc), and the catcher catches the ball before you cross the area of the plate, you are out.
Basically, once you have crossed the committment line, any play at home is a force play. They just gotta get the ball before you get there.
