Not sure why it really matters, been to many Apple Stores in the States, and there's nothing special about them. At all. All the products you can find at any number of places here already, and the places here have demos that you can play around with...and thats the non-Apple stores. Plus, all at the same prices you already pay.

The Genius Bar is a compelling reason to want an Apple Store. Being able to get service and support directly from Apple in person would be a big advantage, especially when it comes to warranty claims on stuff like batteries.
It's also nice to have the entire Apple and third party eco-system in one spot. All the hardware and software in the store is Mac compatible, unlike buying a Mac at Futureshop, where you have Mac & PC compatible stuff mixed together (eg. when looking at printers)
For a "nothing special" store, they are always full of people, that's for sure
