Wow great little lecture.
I had a mini stroke (or at least stroke like symptoms, as there was no permanent damage found after much testing) 13 years ago or so and I can account for that whole, 'being able to problem solve at a high level but not being able to process information' bit she was talking about.
I was on the train on the way to school with some friends, I believe I was in grade 10, and I realized I was having trouble following the conversation. So I listened more intently, but still nothing made sense. So I really focused with all my energy and brain power, and it slowly became aware to me that, their words were making no sense. It was like they were speaking gibberish.
Soon after that my vision started to go in a weird fashion where I had no central vision, but I still had perepheral (sp) vision. I knew I had to get help. But as she said in her lecture about wanting to get to work, the normal mundane tasks seemed really important too. I felt I still had to get to school. Long story short I had to navigate around the busy train platforms during morning rush hour
with no central vision and I was able to problem solve my way through this problem by keeping my eyes (or line of sight) at a certain angle away from the way I wanted to progress. As well, perform the tasks I needed to without talking to or listening to anyone.
By the time I had gotten to school I went though getting my vision back but losing my hearing, getting my hearing back but having a splitting heading with vomiting. Was able to get my teacher to call home and got rushed to the hospital.
I also liked her speech about the struggle between togetherness and individuality. It's the one thing that causes conflict. I've often thought this. But not just in people, in animals, even in particles I always thought. Take any atom and throughout it's existence it pairs, and breaks down. It's bonds and breaks away. The universe expands and then contracts. Big Bang, Big Crunch. Over and over again.
All energy is just trying to decide if it wants to be an individual, or a community.
