You're missing the point. It's because they treat it like the banker said something satanically insulting; and then, with a condescending answer such as 'we're not 'nook' people', it just comes across as highly annoying.
It's also the banker's willingness to suggest a 'breakfast nook' in the first place that's the problem - and, her terribly enthusiastic voice level when she says it.
