I think what happened on the Fan here, if true, is racist. And before you give me some nonsense about how it's just relaying truth, think for a minute.
Sure some aboriginal people may have lots of kids or engage in the seal hunt. That's not the point. Not all aboriginal people fit those stereotypes. So what about those aboriginals who support PETA? Are they less aboriginal? More importantly, what is the point of bringing the reproductive rates of aboriginal peoples or the seal hunt in this context? And why do they have to be evoked with that kind of denigrating rhetoric? What on earth does it have to do with Jordan Tootoo's age? If I understand sclitheroe correctly, these stereotypes were invoked to denigrate a minority group. For no reason other than entertainment.
