One bad thing about giving up Jared Allen is that the Chiefs will more than likely draft a D lineman to replace him (assuming Jake Long has already been selected by the 5th pick). I already envision a training camp holdout followed by a big fat signing bonus, followed by a busted first season. (Which is going to happen to whoever the Chiefs take with the 5th pick) The Chiefs got a steal when they drafted Jared Allen in the fourth round. He has turned out way better than anything the Chiefs could have ever imagined. If the picks that the Chiefs receive in return turn out to be great players, I'll look back on this and laugh. But you are rolling the dice. Odds are the majority of them don't perform as high as Jared Allen or are complete busts.
I had dreams of the Chiefs pulling something like this with Larry Johnson. But figured other teams would be scared of his contract and his poor performance last season.
