Meh, these things come in trends - one person is reading a thread, gets a thought, and doesn't want to derail the current thread so they start another. They'll die in a few weeks, and 8 months from now it will happen again.
I think the tech one kind of had to happen because there were many people looking for advice but they were getting buried or ignored in the monolithic "official" threads.
