Think of it like the difference between listening to a CD and listening to an LP on a decent system. The CD just lacks that ... special something ... that the vinyl has.

I can't believe no-one's mentioned the Fender Deluxe. A fantastic-sounding amp for it's price (a new one will run you about $700-$800). I've played in numerous live settings with guitarists playing through these amps and love their tone and clarity.
