You spoke of rules, i.e. laws and linked to a site that talked about laws for a different type of sign. Mountainous areas tend to have more of the "Keep Right Except To Pass" signs. Freeways don't. They have the one we are talking about here in this thread.

You can read what you want into it and justify this further, but that is clear. If you do not follow that sign based on your perceived high ground about the posted speed limit, then you are violating a long held tenant of highway travel which is backed up by this sign because apparently you were never exposed to it, and choose not to want to follow it.

I am happy for everyone who travels the speed limit, but if you are in the left lane and you are slower than someone who is behind you, it is obvious what you should do in the interests of safety and traffic flow. You may not get a ticket if you are doing the speed limit, but you are ignoring the intent of the rule.

Slower traffic keep right. It really isn't that complicated.
I am not "reading what I want into it", I only join into these discussions to correct misconceptions when people misrepresent and/or misunderstand the law or other factual information. I defy you to find a post I make in any of these threads that isn't factual. But if you want my viewpoint, I can do that too.

And I don't believe you are old enough to understand the history of which you speak. Most people I know from my generation were taught that on freeways, where there are numerous on ramps and exits (especially central Deerfoot where they can be both) it is wiser to go into the "through" lanes, i.e. the two on the left and thus alleviate congestion for those getting on and off the freeway.

Where do you think more accidents occur? The "fast" lane(s) or the merging/right lanes? Where do you get more frustration? Merging into heavy traffic or having to slow down once in a while for someone not going as fast as you want? What do you think would happen if all of a sudden, people really concentrated in that right lane... even if they are not going to exit for many miles yet? You think merging is bad NOW? And don't forget those "second" merge lane racers either. Like on Memorial merging into southbound Deerfoot. Never fails that some moron will see the line in the left most merge lane and fly down in the right most one that ends right where everyone is either exitting Deerfoot onto 17th, or entering Deerfoot. So moron will cut in, hammer breaks and immediately causes all traffic behind him/her to grind to a halt. This really helps matters as now no one is keeping pace with the right most Deerfoot lane. Boom, chaos. Again, add more people "keeping right" to that mix and you have pure butt ugly.

Food for thought.

Personally, I have long passed the days where I thought driving was a race. In ways, it is like the "Weed" thread. At some point, you just stop doing it. I usually drive Deerfoot at the speed limit plus GST. I don't "cruise" the left lane unless I am going a long way and traffic is dictating that pace anyways. I am VERY courteous on the roads.

And I try not to get road rage. Could have easily today. Three times actually. Dickheads that deserve nothing less than to lose their licenses. One guy came within a couple feet of causing a major pile up. Had I not hammered my breaks to let him in, he would have rearended a car that was in a lineup to turn left (Barlow NE, just south of 16th Ave by the Mohawk). The right lane was jammed (and going ~70 kph), he come flying up in the left lane (~90 kph), obviously sees the cars backed up in the left lane, and has nowhere to go.

That was too close for comfort. But hey, what do I know. I was in the right lane and I was doing about the speed limit like those packed in front of me and behind me.

I laugh sometimes even at the "courteous" remarks. Speeders want others to be courteous to them... but....
