Probably decided to cross the ice on the river going home after a night out downtown, and fell through the ice.# One reason to always have buddies with you.

If the guy was dumb enough to try walking across the Bow River at any time then this is more of a case of Darwinism at it's best. No matter how drunk I've been, I've never been stupid enough to do anything like that.

Yeah, I'm sure the Political Science Grad student was just naturally stupid, the booze didn't play a factor... right. Pretty poor comment.
A tragedy indeed, sucks when someone so young dies like this. [/b][/quote]
I don't really care if you think my comment was "poor" or not.
So, because he was a Political Science grad student that means that he would automatically be competent in all measures of intelligence? No, it doesn't because formal education is not the only measurement of intelligence. In my opinion it doesn't even come close to being the most important measure, either.
Also, I didn't say that the fact that he was intoxicated wasn't a factor in attempting to walk across a frozen Bow River. However, I think that you might not have the best concept of danger or personal limitations if alcohol is the "reason" that you might try to do something inherently dangerous as walking on the ice of a river that moves at a good clip in an area known for inconsistent weather. Chinooks plus fast moving water tend not to make for stable, thick ice.
