CALGARY - A low-key Alberta election campaign gave way to voting day controversy and confusion Monday as political party websites crashed and voters struggled to find their polling stations.
The Wildrose Alliance said it was trying to track down who was responsible for five computer addresses which blitzed its website 100,000 times in 24 hours, making the website difficult to access.
"Clearly there's an effort afoot by somebody or some group - and we're certainly not pointing blame at anybody - but certainly there's an effort afoot to cause harm to our website," said Joshua Baba, director of communications for the party.
Alberta Liberals executive director Kieran Leblanc said "mischief" by its political rivals could be responsible for its website crashing for much of the day.
"It's a common political tactic to inundate your political opponents' website to make it crash," she said.
There were also problems at Elections Alberta.
