I do think Northcutt was really good with them once he got there, but he is no spring chicken and he's never really been a huge deep threat...and you would know better than anyone from his days with the Wildcats. I would think Northcutt would be preferable to Porter. Yeah, Porter 'should' be able to stretch the field, but as you said he really hasn't done much but complain for the last few seasons.

I guess in Williamson you have a guy who is at least young enough that he could turn it around.

What does this mean for Matt Jones who, frankly, started looking pretty damn good at the end of this year.

Man, I hate the Jags.
Completely baffled.

Porter had a solid year in about 2004-05. He signed a big extension the year that Moss was brought in but never materialized as anything. Obviously he suffered under the horrible years of the Raiders since 2002 (including a year long benching from Art Shell), but I wouldnt put too much stock in him.

Williamson is young and was highly touted (7th overall), so he could turn it around, but I never thought he would be much more than a return guy after last season.

Jones' maturation has been painfully slow. As a college QB you figured his ability to concentrate and master WR duties would have come along better than it had. He always seemed, awkward and lost out there... his first couple seasons he reminded me of a pubescent male... But I agree with you, last season he started to hit a turning point and improved quite a bit.

I guess the Jags could be looking at Porter and Williamson as deeper threats, Northcut as the primary receiver and using Jones as a possession/slot receiver - similar to Stokley, Welker, or Gonzalez.
