There sure was a lot of whining about the "gruelling" task of carrying the alfalfa, but it seemed like a rather wimpy thing. Not easy, with the altitude but not exactly a life-beater. 7 year old children walk around with 15 or 20 pound backpacks all the time.
The average person walks 4mph so I can't imagine they were out there for more than 25 minutes, max but some of them were just dieing.

Yeah, where can you go in North America thats the same elevation as what they were at in Peru. Considering most of these participants look like they live at sea level I imagine the altitude had a huge effect. I remember Marcus Nilson saying he was out of breath in Calgary in his first game which is what 3900 ft. The village in Peru is at like 11000 feet. Still I heard a lot of stories about the Peruvian Andes when I was down in Brazil, and seeing it on T.V. really makes me want to get there one day before I get old like Cheese and need a wheel chair to get around.
