first, Jack says "is it true the Red Sox won the world series?". They didn't just randomly insert that in, my guess is those guys are from 2007/8, since the Sox just won the series again, the Pilot thinks he's talking about the 07 Sox, and Jack is talking about the 04 Sox.
Also, Science guy said "use the same trajectory" my guess is that if he left a different way, he might end up in a different time then when he came in.
