I am willing to max out my cheese rule, but i am not going to take downgrades on anything. For instance, Derek Roy is making 3.2 million for this season and next, and then is an RFA... i do not see the point in moving him for a more expensive veteran that is gone next season... especially since his LD and EX is just as good as many of the older Vets out there.
And people you say that they will just sign UFA's next year, so they dont want to take on salary, need to think about things a bit. If you are going to send me a UFA worth 7.5 this season.. i am going to want to send back a player with a big salary.... if you get a player back that makes 6.0 for this year and next and some other assets, it should be enough to get the deal done... fact is... that 6.0 million dollar player that is signed for next year, will be cheaper than you signing a similarly rated UFA in the offseason. PLus that guy now becomes a veteran asset that you can move at the deadline to a team with injury problems.
What i am finding is that GM's feel that players like Derek Roy is a fair return for an aging Vet that makes more money..... if i move Roy it is for a top flight player that is signed for at least 2 years. Roy's ratings will be similar to most of the Vets next year anyways.
