American cars have really improved in the last 5 or so years.. I bought a GMC diesel truck last year to drive between shuswaps and calgary, its amazing. So much power, especially with the chip on, and I still get 21mpg.. The fuel is normally 20 cents cheaper than gas so I save a fair amount compared to a gas truck. Personally I think you get better bang for your buck buying domestic..
Maybe the japanese stuff is bland but surely you aren't comparing them to American cars right?

It also depends if you like switching cars every few years because there is no contest in terms of resale value.

As for quality issues, I see one american car company in the top 10 and it's 10th. Ouch for Nissan.

Edit:whoops maybe i should find a more recent article then 2005. hehehehe
