Last time the isolationist model was in place in North America, Pearl Harbour was bombed.
Now I'm not saying that's going to happen nowadays, but it when the world is rapidly developing globalization through technology and culture, it would seem somewhat of an outdated policy. I only have to think of a country like North Korea to realize that isolationism isn't always the best idea.
