Conservatives have more issues with McCain than that of immigration and election reforms. He has been at odds with the religious right for at least a couple election cycles. They were the reason Bush beat him in the first go-around. I don't think they will move to Obama if McCain becomes the republican candidate but, rather they will probably stay home. This will almost insure a Obama victory if he survives to be elected President.
I think there will at least be an attempt on Obama's life if he becomes the Democrat's candidate for President. There are too many Arians and skin heads that believe the white race is going have to fight for their survival against their black counterparts. The possibility of a black President is their worst fears. Unfortunately they've trained and stockpiled weapons for this imagined war for years and will look quite impotent and cowardly if they don't act. It will take divine intervention to keep Obama alive long enough to say the oath of office. Barring that he will be killed after he is the Democrats official candidate and Bush will be blamed.
Does anybody know who would take Obama's place as the Democrat's canidate if Obama is killed after(if) he wins at the convention?
