It seems like factoring out the Maritimes and Territories, the divorce rate in Canada is a steady
40% or so. Not factored in of course is the impact of serial-divorcees. What would really be useful to know is the number of first-marriages (for both parties) which end in divorce. Probably it would be around this same number, but it appears there's enough divorcees out there to skew the stats a bit with their re-marriages.
Edit: And, worth noting, the peak divorce rate in 1987 is essentially attributable to changes in divorce legislation, simplifying the process for couples looking to split up. It's essentially an artificial spike it what is otherwise a pretty steady trend.
