The AHL is considering staging a game in an outdoor venue following the success of a New Year’s Day outdoor NHL contest in Buffalo. “I think there is the likelihood we are going to do one somewhere,’’ commissioner Dave Andrews told media at this week’s All-Star game in Binghamton, N.Y. ... Andrews also discussed a potential NHL initiative to shorten the AHL schedule to 72 games, eliminating four-games-in-five-night stretches and allowing for more practice time for prospects. Andrews said the league would ask NHL teams to “cost share that impact” on AHL franchise’s ticket revenues.
