Default A word of warning for newish GMs

When you are negotiating a deal with a rival GM and they ask for cash for next season - watch yourself.

Many a team have been crippled by trading away too much cash for following seasons.

As a rule of thumb I have no problem including cash to equal out salaries in the current season. But I never, EVER trade cash for next season. My view is that it's the other GMs job to manage their cap for next season.

With the cost of re-signing your own UFAs very high in our league, trading away cap for next season is arguably the most valuable asset in any deal. Veteran GMs will be smart and ask for it - because in some ways it feels like a "throw in".

So...consider this a cautionary note about it.
