I'd pick Clarence, although MacLaren and Elgin isn't that bad. You're right in the heart of the Byward Market, closer to the Transitway, the Rideau Centre, etc.
Elgin Street is a strip of clubs for those who have completed school. The Byward Market is a more eclectic mix of businesses and is busy most of the day instead of just at night.
