Tube amps are sweet but they are really really heavy. Something that might be able to take a little pounding would be good as it needs to survive a few moves.
Okay so you don't want a tube since it's too heavy...

If you just want to practice or jam with yourself in the basement of your igloo then you can live with a Fender G-Dec and use the drum machine and backing music loop or record yourself and then play with yourself

But compared to a real amp, it's just another modeling one so it'll be crappy if you are hardcore.
