Wings 1 Oilers 3
Henrik Zetterberg tallied three assists and a #1 star selection today versus the Red Wings to go with his hat trick and #1 star selection from yesterday. Daniel Alfredsson, who has been red hot with a league-leading 8 game point streak (coinciding with the Oilers' 8 game win streak), scored two goals and Craig Rivet added the other. Simon Gagne had another strong performance with 2 assists. Mike Comrie's powerplay goal in the final minutes of the game spoiled the shutout for Martin Brodeur, who only had to face 17 shots.
The Oilers last six goals have all been scored by the Gagne-Zetterberg-Alfredsson line, while shockingly the (revolving door)-Lecavalier-Iginla line has been silent.
Edmonton is now tied at 65 points with three other teams--Florida, Washington, and Boston--in the overall standings, and trails the Howe Conference-leading Hawks by only one point.
Despite having a tired blueline, the next three games give the Oilers a great chance to match the Hawks' earlier 11-game win streak as Edmonton will face Tampa Bay, Vancouver, and Anaheim. Then the schedule gets tougher...
