Cutting each episode to fit the newer shorter lengths is totally inexcusable. Why cut something on DVD to make it the shorter? More than likely they did it because the clipped things like Johnny speaking over music. That would allow them to get down to the shortened running time and not need to attempt to replace the music.

Now that they are putting it on DVD they don't want to go back and replace the music so they just leave the scene out and use the shortened episodes.
